Editing

We had aready been experimenting with the effects that we were intending on using for the video. These being primarily the 'extract' effect for the close up singing scenes, the black and white effect - also with the use of turning down the brightness and up the contrast. The use of the 'time stretch' tool to both speed things up and slow things down backwards and forwards. We also experimented with putting text over the top, an idea we had not originally come up with. We felt this worked well and added more depth to our video.

Band shooting

We filmed the performance shots in our school drama studio as we had planned, by moving the partition walls around we were able to create a blank background to which we could perform on. We moved the instruments into the room and set up two cameras ready to shoot. We brought in two photography lights along with our own torches and lamps so we could turn off the room lights and light the band in the way that we wanted.
We filmed both full band shots and close ups of each member so that we could montage these together. We filmed 'movement' shots by putting the camera on a trolly and moving it round whilst we filmed.

Self Shoot

I set up the camera at home to face a blank wall and used a lamp to light over the top to reduce shadow. I then proceeded to sing into the camera by playing the song and miming along to it.
I repeated the first verse a number of times with different haircuts, so that we could cut a variety of shots together to make it look like my hair was changing whilst i was singing.
After i had finished this i filmed myself walking down the stairs using the camera from a low angle to add emphasis on me being the lead singer, this was to go synchronous with the lyrics of "I'm already out of the room".

First Shoot

We went on our first proper video shoot on Saturday 2nd February. We set out when it went dark to film our night time walking shots. They went fairly successfully, we found one of the roads down near the grove where we had planned the shoot, which had a good amount of lighting, cars and houses and we began our filming. Our intention was to try out some of our ideas, like a walking shot, just showing my feet walking down the middle of the road. We did some shots of me walking towards and past a still mounted camera. Along with tracking shots of me walking along using a car. Harry filmed a still shot of me standing in the middle of a roundabout for about 5minutes, we intend to speed this shot up to make it seem as if alot of time is passing by.
We got a few more location shots then we had to stop as the light was getting to dark to film properly even with the aid of street lights.

Animatic Production

The animatic filming was created simply using the cameras allocated from the media rooms, we used a tri-pod to ensure that the filming would be easier and the camera would be stable enough to allow for us to film the storyboard in such a way that the film would be consistent for editing purposes.
The film was easily uploaded, following the instructions given by Miss Johnson.
we had 34 different story board sections and allocated 4 seconds per one. This was about two and a half minutes worth of film and after uploading the song we found that more film was needed. I re sketched some of the scenes and legnthened them to a correct size, we also decided to add some additional footage that legthened the film to a more appropriate legnth that fitted well with the song legnth.
The next step was to alter the editing and section the filming in a way that would allow us to modify the film in sections. This allowed us to be able to manouveure the different sections into a different order.
The next task was to move the order so it would encompass the music and the timing would be correct, This was fairly time consuming and took a lot of tiem playing the track back.
Once we had sorted the order of the film we uploaded the animatic onto Youtube (link above) this gave us the oppurtunity to view the video and allowed the other members of our class to comment and criticise our work.

The final filming allowed us to view the storyboard in time with the music and gave us an insight into possible locations that would be suitable for the video settings, this also allowed us to make technical notes and decide upon the type of camera techniques and editing we could include to improve the nature of our video. We began to start planning ahead for the locations, props, actors/extras we would need and the different equipment we would need to create the visual effects we required.

The process allowed us to get the basic knowledge of the programme and set the basis for the future film editing. We performed a number of extra sequences with different effects purely as an experiment to see which effects worked well and the limitations that we would face with the editing of the film.
